MISSION STATEMENT......................................
We serve to minister to the people of the St. Louis Catholic Community regardless of age or ability by providing sound catechesis, spiritual support, direction and resources to help put people not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy with, Jesus Christ. .

PHILOSOPHY.....................................................

"The fundamental task of catechesis is to proclaim Christ's message, to participate in efforts to develop community, and to lead people to worship and prayer, and to motivate them to serve others." (National Catechetical Directory, #213) We strive to stay true to Christ's mission in our commitment to gospel values and our recognition of our baptismal call to serve. Trained catechetical ministers, together with the pastoral team, seek to foster spiritual growth through opportunities for education, reflection and service. This is achieved through scripture study, small faith groups, sacramental preparation, early childhood through junior high programs, and seasonal enrichment opportunities.

The preparation process for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation begins with level 7 and ends in the fall of their ninth grade year. As followers of Christ, we are called to witness to our faith through service in the world. For this reason, students spend two semesters serving their community and reflecting on their experiences in light of the Gospel.

Sacramental Preparation

INFANT BAPTISM

In the Sacrament of Baptism, we begin our life in Christ as members of the Catholic Church. Infant baptism is celebrated at weekend liturgies throughout the year with the exception of the season of Lent. Preparation begins with an interview with a member of the pastoral team then the educational sessions are scheduled at that time. Parents are encouraged to contact the parish before the child is born to begin the preparation process. When thinking about the Godparents you wish for your child, please keep the following requirements in mind: 16 years of age or older. Have received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Active and practicing member of the Catholic Church. Cannot be the child's parent.

Reconciliation and First Eucharist for Children

Eucharist (communion) is the second of the sacraments of initiation celebrated in the Catholic Church. The preparation for this sacrament, along with the sacrament of Reconciliation, is part of the Level 2 after school program. Children preparing for these sacraments must be baptized and have completed at least one year of faith formation. If you have a child who is older and has not yet celebrated this sacrament, please contact the Faith Formation office to arrange for their preparation to begin.

CONFIRMATION for CHILDREN

Confirmation is the third Sacrament of Initiation which focuses individual attention on the power of the Holy Spirit. Our parish preparation program begins in Levels 7 & 8. After completion of these levels, individuals formally express their desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and begin a more intense preparation with their sponsors including a retreat experience.

OLDER SACRAMENTAL CATECHESIS

Sacramental Preparation for Children Baptized in Another Christian Denomination Children ages 8-13, who have been baptized in another faith but wish to make a Profession of Faith in the Roman Catholic Church and receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation, participate in sessions with their age level peers and then participate in additional preparation for their profession of faith and reception of the sacraments..

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS- RCIA

Sacramental Preparation for Adults Adults wishing to be baptized, become Catholic, and/or celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation are welcomed into the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process. This begins each fall with the sacraments being celebrated in the Spring at the Easter Vigil.
